Hill’s Pet Nutrition has voluntarily recalled select canned dog food products due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D.
While vitamin D is an essential nutrient for dogs, ingestion of elevated levels can lead to potential health issues such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. When consumed at very high levels, excess vitamin D can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction. Consumers with dogs that have eaten any of the products listed below and are exhibiting any of these signs should contact their veterinarian.
Hill’s Pet Nutrition learned of the potential for elevated vitamin D levels in some of its canned dog foods after receiving a complaint in the United States about a dog exhibiting signs of elevated vitamin D levels. The company’s investigation confirmed elevated levels of vitamin D due to a supplier error.
Below are the specific products with the specific lot codes/date codes affected by the recall. If you have any of the products listed, please discontinue feeding them immediately and return unopened cans to your retailer for a refund.
