Purina Recalls Prescription Wet Dog Food Due to Labeling Error

Out of an abundance of caution, Nestlé Purina PetCare Company has voluntarily recalled a limited amount of Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Low Fat (PPVD EN Low Fat) prescription wet dog food in 13.4 oz cans due to a labeling error.

For a brief period on September 15, 2022, cans of Purina ONE True Instinct Tender Cuts in Gravy with Real Turkey & Venison wet dog food were mistakenly labeled as PPVD EN Low Fat in one Purina factory. While the mislabeled diet is safe to feed, it is not the intended formula for dogs requiring a prescription low-fat diet, who may have sensitivities to traditional diets, or who have difficulty digesting fat.

The mislabeled product contains chunks in gravy, while the correct product looks more like a pâté in consistency. The mislabeled product carries the UPC 38100 17599, production code 22581159 L4TR6, and “Best Before Sept 2024” on the bottom of each can.

To date, there have been no reports of illness or injury to dogs fed this mislabeled product and Purina has conducted the voluntary recall as a precaution. The affected product was available by prescription only and distributed through veterinary clinics and other retailers with the ability to validate a prescription. Purina has asked its veterinary and other retail partners to remove the affected product, and recommends pet owners discard affected product and reach out to Purina for information on how to acquire replacement product. The Purina team is available at 1-800-579-7733, Monday-Saturday, 8am – 5pm CST or via email at https://www.purina.com/contact-us.
