On August 25, 2025, Viva Raw LLC of Charlotte, NC, issued a voluntary recall of two lots of frozen dog and cat food products due to potential contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected products were distributed directly to consumers nationwide and to a limited number of retailers in New York, Illinois, South Carolina, Florida, Kansas, California, and Arizona between July 2 and August 21, 2025.
Products are sold in frozen one-pound bricks with the lot number printed on the top of the vacuum-sealed packaging.
Products Included in the Recall
- Lot 21495
- Viva Ground Beef for Dogs
- Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies
- Lot 21975
- Viva Ground Chicken for Dogs
- Viva Chunked Chicken for Dogs
- Viva Chicken for Cats
- Viva Pure Chicken
To date, no illnesses related to these products have been reported in dogs, cats, or humans.
Risks to Humans and Pets
Contaminated products can pose serious health risks to both animals and humans.
- Humans who handle contaminated products may develop Salmonella or Listeria infections, particularly if hands or surfaces are not properly washed.
- Listeria is especially dangerous for pregnant individuals and those with weakened immune systems.
- Pets may exhibit symptoms such as lethargy, fever, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), or a decreased appetite. Infected pets can also carry and spread the bacteria without showing any signs of illness.
What to Do If You Have the Product
If you have food from Lot 21495 or Lot 21975:
- Do not feed it to pets or any other animals.
- Dispose of the food in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access.
- Do not sell or donate the recalled product.
- Wash and sanitize pet bowls, scoops, storage containers, and hands after handling the product.
