Consumers Supply Distributing, LLC, Recalls Country Vet and Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

Consumers Supply Distributing, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling certain dog biscuit products sold under the Country Vet and Heartland Harvest brand names due to the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella can affect animals that consume the products and may pose a risk to humans who handle contaminated pet products, especially if hands are not thoroughly washed after contact with the products or any surfaces they have touched.

The Country Vet product is marked with the lot number and best-by date on the front of the bag.
The Heartland Harvest product is marked with the lot number and best-by date on the back of the bag.

Distribution

The recalled products were sold through retail stores in the following states:

Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Montana, and Nebraska.

Health Risk Information

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, Salmonella may result in more serious conditions.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and may experience diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, or abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and may transmit the infection to other animals or humans.

Consumers who experience symptoms after handling the recalled products should contact their healthcare provider. Pet owners whose pets show symptoms after consuming the recalled products should contact their veterinarian.

Recall Details

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

The recall was initiated after a routine FDA sampling program detected Salmonella in the finished products. The company has ceased production and distribution of the affected lot while the FDA and the company continue their investigation.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should discontinue use and may return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund.
