Blue Ridge Beef Recalls Puppy and Kitten Mix Products Due to Salmonella and Listeria Risk

Blue Ridge Beef of Statesville, NC, is recalling 1,080 lbs. of their 2 lb logs of Kitten Mix Lot # N26 0114 and 1,380 lbs of their 2 lb logs of Puppy Mix Lot # N25 1230 due to potential contamination with Salmonella and Listeria. Both Salmonella and Listeria can affect animals eating the products and pose risks to humans from handling contaminated pet products.

The recalled products were distributed between January 3, 2025, to January 24, 2025. The products are packaged in clear plastic and sold primarily in retail stores located in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York State, Tennessee, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. Lot numbers are stamped in the clips on the end of the chubs/bags.

Pets with Salmonella or Listeria infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only a decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled products and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella or Listeria should monitor themselves for symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, these bacteria can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with these products should contact their healthcare providers.

The recall was initiated after a customer complaint of animal illness. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets collected samples of the products on March 20, 2025. On April 1, 2025, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture notified the firm that the products tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase or destroy the food in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access it. Wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers. For more information, email blueridgebeefnc@yahoo.com or call (704) 873-2072 Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST.
