Albright’s Raw Pet Food Announces Voluntary Recall of Select Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced, 1 lb Bricks Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

Albright’s Raw Pet Food of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is voluntarily recalling one lot of Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced because the product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to the company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall was initiated following routine FDA sampling. 

During testing, the sampled lot reportedly tested positive for Salmonella species. The announcement also states that Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli were identified during sampling. Third-party confirmatory testing is still pending.

Health Risk Information

Salmonella can affect animals that consume contaminated products and may also pose a risk to humans who handle contaminated pet food, especially if hands and surfaces are not thoroughly washed after contact.

Pets infected with Salmonella may experience lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain. Some pets may show no symptoms but can still carry and spread the bacteria to other animals or people.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, a more serious illness may occur.

No illnesses associated with these lots have been confirmed to date.

Affected products should be returned to the place of purchase or disposed of in a manner that prevents access by children, pets, and wildlife.
