Health Risk Information
Salmonella can affect animals that consume the product and may pose a risk to humans who handle contaminated pet products, especially if hands are not thoroughly washed after contact with the product or with surfaces exposed to it.
Healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, more serious illnesses may occur.
Pets infected with Salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets may show only decreased appetite, fever, or abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can carry the bacteria and infect other animals or humans.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
